Grote's Quotes

" Candy and soda are for weaklings who have failed to instill more substantial gratifications in their lives. "
An obscure hs coach from NJ in the mid-80's

Puttin' On The Foil...

These frigging guys left their mark on Greensboro, that is for sure.  They have left a mark on NJ that will last for quite awhile, and they're not even seniors yet.  What's next for them, who knows.  2010 x-c promises to be better than ever in The Garden State.  A few pretty good guys out there are probably spending their summers figuring out ways to beat these guys...at least there are two of them, a bigger target or something.  In the coming weeks, Grotepoll.com will formulate some more coherent thoughts on what will develop on the cross.

NJSIAA State Meet Time...

All roads lead to South Plainfield, although many of them are quite confusing, particularly to numbskulls such as myslef trying to get out of South Plainfield and back onto 287...nonetheless, sectionals start this weekend, and everybody is in, including the parochials, non-publics, and so on.  Things are shaping up for an extremely deep, impressive year for distance results from both genders, many of which are still underclassmen...

Bernards Invite, May 1st

Bernards HS Cross Country / Track & Field AlumniGrotepoll.com will be there at my alma mater with Brooks for The Running Company.  Setup will include pretty cool Brooks meet t-shirts, spikes and more stuff that doesn't suck.  Stop by for that and an optional history lesson on the ghosts of distance running past that have circled the track, run the backgrounds and congregated at The Wall in Bernardsville.  On hand with me will be two former Meet of Champs runnersup, one from x-c, another from the track who is now one of the younger Olympic Trials Marathon qualifiers, that mark coming in his debut after graduating from Colorado and developing under a coach who graduated from and coached at Bernards and was mentor, friend, and establisher of many a tradition at The Wall.  I could bore you with stories for hours or just sell you stuff or give you a tip on a cool place to go for a warmup or warmdown.
