Talk to me, Goose...Iona seeks to stay afloat
Ryan Sheridan bravely led the venerable Gaels of Iona to yet another top 10 finish at NCAA's last fall, in year one of the post-Khadroui era. Prior to last year's still pretty OK 8th, Iona was a trophy team for four straight years including two consecutive 2nd's...that doesn't suck.
From #4 to #????
You have to like a team who's mascot carries in axe...I know I do at least. You also have to like a team returning the NCAA runner-up who won a couple NCAA titles on the track indoors and outdoors, as well as the rest of its scorers from last year's 4th place trophy winning group.
One of the 3 Institutions of Higher Learning which had the misfortune of me running for them...
Albeit not for long, one semester to be exact...2 indoor, 3 outdoor races of little consequence. I can't say I ever knew the fight song, but recall something to the effect of: "da da da da da da, GO TO HELL CAROLINA...hum hum hum hum GO NC STATE!" Last season brought a surprise ACC Title for the Wolf Pack, although honestly, for a program with this rich of a tradition, a conference title should never be a surprise. Yes, UVa is the hot spot now, and the aforementioned Carolina looks to have a big upswing in the next few years, but through it all NC State is still pretty good at running.
